Objectives

SPACIOUS is the Science PlAtform Cloud Infrastructure for Outsize Usage Scenarios.

The project aims to boost the scientific exploitation of ESA mission data by offering a new computational framework for astrophysical research that requires Big Data and Data Mining technologies. SPACIOUS will raise the competitiveness of the EU scientific community by increasing the Big Data and Data Mining expertise and providing easier access to these techniques. By integrating existing technologies into a unique Data Mining environment, SPACIOUS will enable deeper analysis of ESA mission data beyond current limits. Our goal is to make this platform available to the wider community, promoting collaborative astrophysical research and innovative analysis of ESA science archives.

SPACIOUS stands out by offering access to essential data and the infrastructure, tools, and methodologies necessary for their analysis, positioning itself as a key resource for Big Data exploration of ESA’s data products. The project is committed to producing scientific value, including publications and enhanced data products, and tackling significant data analysis challenges. An open call will extend the platform’s benefits to the community, selecting proposals based on scientific and technical merit.

Furthermore, we prioritise engagement with society, dedicating efforts to communicate and disseminate findings beyond academia, reaching the educational sector, industry, and the general public, thus ensuring a broad impact.
